Katen Doe

Aneth is an early career scientist focusing on utilising biotechnological tools for sustainable development. She is an academician at University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with major roles in teaching, research and consultancy in broader fields of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. Aneth has a background in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BSc and MSC).

She is a co-founder of the Tanzania Human Genetics Organisation (THGO), an initiative that aims at expanding human research and application in Tanzania and Africa in general. She has served in diverse ambassadorial roles towards improving science culture and building capacity for youth and women in science and technology including the eLife ambassadorship program and Women in Tech Africa (WiTA). She has experience in designing and running programs and events related to science and technology. She is a member of the NEF-CoS executive committee and an inaugural NEF ambassador for Tanzania. She is also the recipient of the NEF women in STEM careers award (2022) for her contribution towards development of science and technology in Tanzania.

In her free time, Aneth mentors young people in science and technology, especially young girls. When not in the lab, Aneth enjoys reading, traveling and sharing knowledge through Wikipedia, blogging and social media platforms. Aneth is an advocate of gender equality, diversity and inclusion in science as well as open science & knowledge.
